Our story
It all started with a 9-year-old and a big idea.
We're the Fenech family from Malta. One evening our son asked: "Why can't learning Maltese be as fun as a game?" So we built one together.
Why "MELA"?
Mela is what every Maltese person says a hundred times a day: "Mela… ejja!" — "So… let's go!" Our son also spotted that it works as an acronym: Maltese Educational Learning App. He chose it, and it stuck.
Meet Kaptan Luzzu
Every good voyage needs a captain. Kaptan Luzzu is our cheerful, brightly painted fishing boat, complete with the Eye of Osiris. He sails learners around Malta, Comino and Gozo, cheers when you get things right and gives you a nudge when you need one.

What's next
We're starting with Malti for school students and Maltese for Foreigners. Next, we want to add more school subjects for Maltese learners, plus phone apps for iPhone and Android.
